Soil Management &
Farm Activities

Our Priceless soil is a boon

The preservation of soil nutrients and retaining its ideal quality, which includes pH level, organic matter, moisture, temperature, air circulation and solar exposure, are two of the biggest issues organic farming faces today.

Organic farming techniques advocated by Panchamaveda strive to achieve soil fertility without the use of chemical fertilisers. We produce our own manure for the entire farm to meet these needs. We create four different kinds of manures:

1. Biogas Slurry and Decoction, which are by-products of our dairy.

The creation of compost and vermin-compost from dairy and agricultural waste. These help our organic farm produce crops sustainably without the need of artificial pesticides or fertilisers. With this, we adhere to a biological system that is self-sufficient and places a focus on sustainability rather than reliance on outside resources.

As a way to prevent them from being clogged with oil, aerating soils entails limiting the amount of traffic on their surfaces. By keeping the soil covered with an impermeable layer (such as plastic) for at least six months after planting, you may lessen the amount of water that seeps through them. By alternating rows of crops amongst various plant species, we keep our soil from compacting and eroding.

Bamboo trees growing on an experimental basis also play an important role in soil nutrient build-up and maintenance of soil fertility. The nutrient cycling in bamboo forests had shown improvement in soil fertility due to its vigorous growth and litter production.

“Beekeeping - Conservation and Management of Honey Bees at Panchamaveda ”

DSC_2464.jpg

"Indian Vedas and Buddhist scriptures mention honey bee-keeping. After independence, beekeeping was promoted as part of various rural development programs. Five species of bees are commercially important for honey production and beeswax production.

The well-known epic Ramayana mentions a "Madhuban" (literally, "honey forest") that Sugriva created. The epic Mahabharata also makes reference to a separate Madhuban that is located close to the modern city of Mathura and that is where Krishna and Radha first met. Bees were domesticated in the jungle to make India the "land of honey and milk."

Panchamaveda organic farm has acquired knowledge and skills in beekeeping management and adapting to the local environment beekeeping is practised with traditional knowledge and bees are kept in traditional hives.

Fodder Management - Silage management

"Panchamaveda uses our own farm-produced organic feed for our cows. This fodder includes grain feed like maize, Fodder sorghum, Bajara, and Hybrid Napier and includes tree fooders like moringa.

Panchamaveda guarantees that fodder safety and quality are maintained throughout the year. We make silage from homegrown delicate maize and sorghum, allong with jaggery, salt, and mineral mixes. This silage is one of our gems, and it is carefully packaged in two separate 30-ton bunkers to avoid contact with oxygen. Once unpacked, we begin extracting silage from the bunkers on a daily basis."
